Balen's application to the government to remove the objectionable part of Adipurusha
There has been a lot of controversy in Nepal regarding the South Indian film 'Adipurush' which was released today.
The controversy has taken a new turn after the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah (Balen) expressed his interest and criticized the film, especially regarding the dialogue that 'Janaki is the daughter of India'.
After Balen, through social media, warned that the movie will be banned in theaters in Kathmandu unless the dialogue is removed from the movie within three days, there has been a commotion in the film industry.
In the meantime, despite the emergency meeting held on Friday morning of the Nepal Film Association, the umbrella organization of the exhibitors, the morning shows were canceled, "depending on the mayor's status".
The film should not be stopped and the Censor Board also decided that the screening of the film should not be stopped when the dialogue has been removed and given the censor certificate. Within a few hours of the decision, Mayor Balen has written to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to take the initiative to remove the objectionable part in the film.
It is said in the letter that the objectionable message that Janaki is an Indian daughter included in the South Indian film Adipurush has been written in relation to the removal of the original part of the film.
There is no doubt that it is the first duty of every government, government agency, non-governmental sector and Nepali citizen to protect the national interest by keeping Nepal's freedom, independence and self-respect intact. Clause (6) of Article 5 and Article 56 of the Constitution of Nepal assigns the responsibility of protecting the national interest to the Union, State and local governments.
If the film is shown as it is, it seems that Nepal's nationality, cultural unity and national identity will be severely damaged and irreparable damage will be done. Due to the cultural encroachment of this movie on Nepal, this metropolitan city has attracted serious attention.
By prohibiting the showing of the said film against the national interest within the Kathmandu metropolitan area, if the film is allowed to be shown in other areas within the country and abroad, it would establish a misleading fact, so the government of Nepal is requested to take diplomatic initiatives with neighboring friendly country India to arrange for the removal of the offending part of the film.
In addition, it is also requested to make arrangements to ban the screening of any Indian film in Nepal until the objectionable parts are removed from the said film. He mentioned the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Film Development Board as examples.
