Miruna Magar is appointed as the ambassador of Nepal European Union Film Festival
The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal has organized the first phase of the Nepal European Union Film Festival with the slogan 'Celebrating Human Rights for all' at Far-Western University in Mahendranagar from 28 to 30 April.
After Mahendranagar, in the second phase, the festival will be organized from the 3rd to the 5th of May at Mid-Western University, Surkhet. The final round of screening will take place from 12th to 15th May at the hall of the Film Development Board in Chabahil, Kathmandu.
"This year marks 75 years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was issued. In this context, we have chosen the slogan 'Celebrating Human Rights for all' as the theme for the festival. Its purpose is to increase the awareness of the common people about their rights and to build networks and solidarity to protect the human rights of all," said Nona Deprez, Ambassador of the European Union to Nepal.
Eight European films directed by well-known directors, as well as short films produced by youths of Nepal will be screened at the festival, which will be held in the Far West, Mid West, and Kathmandu. During the festival, European Union Nepal will also organize a discussion on the role of film in promoting human rights. Communication and human rights expert Pratistha Koirala will moderate the discussion. Stanislas Ide, who is writing about films from Europe, will participate in this discussion. Nepali filmmaker and director Arun Deo Joshi and Dr. Ghimire, who has a long experience in film studies are the panelists for this side event.
The next discussion conducted by famous film producer and director Rajesh Gogju who has been involved in film production and teaching since 2000, will be on 'Film Appreciation: How to Understand and Appreciate Films?' This discussion will be held on the 30th at Far-Western University from 11 am to 12 pm. Similarly, another side event on the same topic will be held at Mid-Western University on 3rd May from 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm.
The festival will be inaugurated with the film 'Any Day Now' which presents the story of immigration and is one of the main human rights issues, by Ramejan in all three venues. The film presents the story of immigration. The other films chosen for the festival from our own repository are Oscar & Lilly (Austria) directed by Arash T. Riahi, Ramona (Spain) directed by Andrea Bagney, Io Sto Bene (Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, and Italy) directed by Donato Rotunno, Imad’s Childhood (Sweden. Latvia, Iraq) directed by Zahavi Sanjavi, Invisible (Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Spain) directed by Ignas Jonynas, Dating Amber (Ireland, UK) directed by David Freyne, Mitra (Netherlands) directed by David Freyne.
Likewise, Nepali films produced with the financial support of the Tony Hagen Foundation, 'I Wanted To Be Like Madhuri Dixit' by Ankit Khadki, 'Gurkha Girl' by Bishal Roka Magar and 'Blues of Pink' by Grishma Giri will be screened at the festival.
Other films by young Nepalese filmmakers include Minsho Limbu's 'Junko', Sunil Pandey's 'Baghthan', Poonam Paudel's 'Living with Dignity', Deepak Rauniyar's 'Four Nights' and Deepa Shrestha's 'Drifting Clouds'. Three European films, "Any Day Now, Mitra and Imad's Childhood" will also be screened in the festival with Nepali subtitles.
Renowned actress of Nepal Miruna Magar is now, the brand ambassador of this year's Nepal European Film Festival.
The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal has been doing this kind of festival for the last 11 years. This cultural activity has been given high importance in the annual programs of the European Union.
