Pramila says – 'Hookah: An Absurd Dream' gives authentic story

Actress Pramila Khanal was born in Pokhara and grew up in Chitwan. When she was in the village, she used to think that burning a common coal and smoke full of tobacco, is called 'hookah'. The reality was the same.

Pramila, who acted in a leading role in the film 'Hookah: An Absurd Dream', which is releasing on 12th Jestha, understood the real meaning of 'Hookah' after acting in this film.

"When I looked at the hookah, I thought of it as a simple way to burn charcoal and smoke full of tobacco. I heard that hookah is considered a matter of prestige in society. But after working in this film, I realized that it was just an illusion,” says Pramila.

Pramila started her acting journey with the film 'Dabab' and since then she has played supporting roles in many films. But in 'Hookah: An Absurd Dream', she played the main character.

Pramila plays the role of a brave and fearless woman in the film. "I am presented as the woman who lives in her mother's home with a daughter after divorce", says Pramila.

She joined this film after the lockdown. Pramila, who stayed at home for a long time during the lockdown, read the script of 'Hookah: An Absurd Dream' at that time. "Along with my character, I also liked the theme of the film. Another reason for joining the team of film was that its shooting was to be done in Pokhara. As Kathmandu city was deserted because of the corona, I wanted to go somewhere far from the city. This film came to me as an opportunity that I didn't want to miss.

According to Pramila, 'Hookah: An Absurd Dream' tells the story of society. She also claimed that the film is good because the themes shown in the trailer relate to society.

Pramila is currently experiencing motherhood. She became the mother of a son on Baisakh. She also played the role of a mother of a daughter in the film. "The film has shown a mother's commitment, duty, and relationship with her daughter very strongly. Now I have also become a mother in real life. A mother's relationship with her children is unforgettable. Now I am giving more time to my son and I am saddened not to be able to go to the promotion of the film."

Pramila considers 'Hookah: An Absurd Dream' as 'local rice'. She is confident that this film will give the taste of 'local rice' to the common Nepali people. "The film is trying to show and taste the same. We have not raised any terribly different and scary topic. But what we have tried to show is presented in a very different way", says Pramila.

The film directed by Shambhu Thapa also stars Pramila, Santosh Kumar Atrey, Prakash Ghimire, Tej Giri, Ashu Neupane, Talisha Gurung, Nischal Bimal, and Alisha B.K.

Reshma Pradhan is the co-producer, Parvati Thapa, Sushila Gurung, and Sagar Godar Chhetri are the producers, and Kamal Bahadur Bhujel and Kiran Kumar Atreya are the executive producers. The film will be distributed by Station Five in the valley and FD Company outside the valley.
